Caster Photo Guildlines:

• For your Caster photo, pick something special to you to show! Your shoes, your number written on your hand, a favourite book, etc. Our Featured Caster on the front page is a perfect example of the appropriate photo to upload.
• Do NOT send inappropriate images that show any sexuality, nudity, cussing on your hands, or any other thing close to that because you will not be chosen at all and would like to be a safe site for all. This is important, it allows us to include everyone in our Featured Caster section without having to limit any ages for inappropriate behavior.
• If you are under 13, we do not require it, make your parents aware that you are submitting your photo for the Featured Caster Contest. We don’t want angry parents after us, as we’re sure you don’t either.
• Please, make sure that the photo you submit is of YOU. If you submit photos of other people or photos you found on the internet and we get emails from mad people we will NOT be happy!
• Above all else HAVE FUN! And remember that we might get more submissions in a month then we can put up, we will save all past winners in a separate page. We also keep older submissions from past months so if you don’t get chosen one month keep an eye out because there is a good chance you’ll be in The Top Casters in another month.
• Also please make sure your picture isn't to close or too far (more than a couple feet away) then it won't look good so be sure it isn't blurry or out of focus.

Margaret Stone
Writing has gotten me in and out of trouble since I was 15 (back then, mostly just in trouble.) I have written everything from video games and video game manuals to live action screenplays, as well as poetry in the UK & the US. For 10 years, I designed &/or wrote for lots of video games, one of which was nominated for “Most Innovative Game Design,” but I lost to a rapping onion. If you know games you get why my two bad beagles are named Zelda and Kirby. School; I spent more years in it than a person ever should, because let’s face it, reading books is so much better than having a job. I fell in love with American literature at Amherst and Yale, earned an MA in English from Stanford, and studied creative writing under the late great poet George MacBeth at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. I taught Intro to Film as a TA at Yale and Romantic Poetry as a TA at Stanford. Don’t tell the people at Yale, but sometimes I taught the section before I’d seen the movie it was about… 

I live in Santa Monica, CA, with my family, most of whom were enslaved into working with me in one form or another on my forthcoming YA book for Little, Brown. I’m not kidding; when my daughters wanted to go to school I said “Why are you so selfish? Get back in there and edit,” and by said I mean yelled and maybe threw things, it’s all a haze. I have a writing partner named Kami and she is why we ever get anything done. (Well, K and the daughter-slaves…) 

And so we wrote a book this year, and it’s going to come out in lots and lots of countries in a few months. And I am really, really hoping there is no hot title about a rapping onion coming out at the same time.

I grew up outside of Washington DC, but it always felt like I had one foot in the South. By the time I was thirteen, my family moved in with my grandmother and great-grandmother, and we had four generations of women living under the same roof – two born and bred in North Carolina. I grew up drinking sweet tea, eating vegetables cooked with a little bacon grease, and biscuits made from scratch. I mean, didn’t everyone’s great-grandma know how to skin a chicken, tat lace, and make dresses without a pattern? I wasn’t exactly like either of them. I wore a lot of black, a lot of rings, and spent hours writing in my journals. By the time I graduated high school, I had probably filled a hundred of them and gotten my friends more than a few dates with my poems. That was the beginning of writing for me.

I have an MA in education, and taught in the DC area until I moved to Los Angeles ten years ago. In addition to writing YA fiction, I am a Reading Specialist and continue to teach and lead book groups for children and teens, part-time. I have learned more from my students than I ever learned in school. I still live in LA, with my husband, son, and daughter. I’m very superstitious and have lots of charms. I love disaster movies, and I could easily live on pizza and Diet Coke.

Ridley Duchannes - Lena's cousin, also a dark Caster.
Ridley was Lena's best friend (Almost like sisters) until Ridley was scared that she was going to go dark so she left her family. Later on she ends up going to met her beloved Lena. She is dark by then.

Wesley "Link" Lincoln

Wesley "Link" Lincoln - Link is Ethan's best friend. He is an amateur musician, and he plays in a band that he is very proud of, although they aren't very good. He is the only other student, besides Ethan, to accept Lena as a friend. He is very supportive of both Ethan and Lena, and he stands beside Ethan no matter what happens.

Lena Duchannes - Another main protagonist, Lena is somewhat of an outcast among Stonewall Jackson High when she first arrives in Gatlin. She is Macon Ravenwood's niece, which causes the other students to tease her. She and Ethan find that they both feel somewhat like outcasts, and they develop a close friendship, eventually falling in love. She enjoys writing poetry in a journal she carries with her. She is the descendant of Genevieve Duchannes.

Ethan Lawson Wate - The main protagonist, Ethan is the son of two writers, and he has lived in Gatlin his entire life. He is considered somewhat popular, being Emily Asher's ex-boyfriend and a member of the basketball team, but he feels somewhat like an outcast. His one goal in life is to escape Gatlin forever and not become stuck there like many other of the small town's citizens. He enjoys reading everything from classic novels to comic books. He is the descendant of Ethan Carter Wate.

• Amma Treadeau - Amma is the housekeeper for the Wate family. She is truly interested in the dark arts and voodoo, leaving small trinkets around the house to ward away evil spirits. She acts almost like a grandmother to Ethan, and she is very protective of him. She has practically raised him since his mother died. She enjoys doing crossword puzzles.

• Macon Melchizedek Ravenwood - Lena's uncle, he has always tried to protect her. He is a Dream Incubus, which means he can only come out at night (sleeps during the day) and consumes dreams.

• Wesley "Link" Lincoln - Link is Ethan's best friend. He is an amateur musician, and he plays in a band that he is very proud of, although they aren't very good. He is the only other student, besides Ethan, to accept Lena as a friend. He is very supportive of both Ethan and Lena, and he stands beside Ethan no matter what happens.
